November 5, Flowserve announced plans to close its Dayton, Ohio, metalcasting facility in 2016. Casting operations will continue until the second quarter of 2016, when the facility will continue to operate as a pattern storage warehouse. The closure will eliminate 80 jobs.
“The company and the union will have a full and meaningful opportunity to negotiate in good faith regarding the company’s decision to cease primary steel manufacturing operations at the Dayton Foundry and the effects of the company’s decision on the employees represented by the union,” said Lars Rosene, vice president of global communications and public affairs, Flowserve.
Flowserve attributed the closing to a rapidly changing market, declining sales and a loss in operating income. The Flowserve Dayton metalcasting facility was a high alloy facility specializing in stainless steels, nickel-based alloys and titanium. The company produces pumps, seals and valves for the power, oil, gas and chemical industries.
