A new automated process control system was put into operation at the processing plant in Zapolyarny Kola MMC. The project was implemented within 4 years, without stopping the technological processes and in the current production conditions. His budget is more than RUB 67 million. The need to replace the existing automated process control system built in 2002 was caused by the discontinuation of the production of spare parts by the main equipment manufacturer. The modernization of the automated process control system was carried out in stages, the main production stages of the processing plant were involved: new control systems received, in particular, a pulp pump station, three flotation sections, crushing, grinding and thickening processes, as well as auxiliary equipment involved in the process. All local control systems were subsequently integrated into the integrated information system of the processing plant. The controllers of the German company Siemens are used as the hardware platform of the new automated process control system, and the Wonderware System Platform software is used to display information to the operators on the workstations.
Andrei Shklyark, head of the automation department at Kola MMC, said that “The introduction of a new automated process control system significantly increases the reliability of the process of the processing plant. The use of modern automation equipment not only reduces the risk of emergency situations, but also makes it possible, if necessary, to make adjustments to the operation of equipment.”
