ltaly-based Tenova, a Techint Group company specialized in innovative solutions for the metals and mining industries, hasannounced that, together with China-based Sinosteel Engineering & Technology, it has successfully completed the performancetest for Chinese steelmaker Baosteel Zhanjiang lron & Steel Co. Ltd.''s new hydrogen-based ENERGIRON direct reduction (DR)plant. The plant has been desianed by Tenova using ENERGlRON, the innovative DRl technology jointly developed by Tenova andltalian plantmaker Danieli, and completed with engineering by Sinosteel.Durna the performance test. the plant achieved a milestone producion of a total of21 620 mt of direct reduced iron after 168hours of continuous fullload production, with a metalization rate of more than 94 percent and using 70 percent hydrogen-basedreducing gas. The new ENERGIRON DR plant, installed in Zhaniiang Economic and Technological Zone. has an annual fullproduction capacity of one milion mt, making it the largest and firstofits-kind hydrogen-based DRl facility in China. it has beeradditionally designed to capture carbon that can be sold commercially, further reducing the plant''s overall carbon emissions andproviding an added revenue stream for plant''s operations.
