Asian traders said that the latest offer in China and Taiwan was expected to rise further due to the rising nickel prices. Since early April, Taiwanese steel mills have been under the high pressure with the increasing nickel prices in the market.
The three-month futures price of nickel on the London Metal Exchange (LME) closed at US$14,450-14,470/ton on May 16th, up by US$615/ton compared to last week.
Yieh United Steel Corp. (Yusco), the largest integrated stainless steel mill in Southeast Asia, also said that the strong nickel market will support stainless steel prices in the short term.
