Scunthorpe Telegraph reported that determined efforts by a team of engineers and contractors look set to have saved the TATA Steel works in Scunthorpe almost GBP 2.5 million a year in energy costs.
A turbine alternator at the turbo blower house, which uses steam to generate electricity for the 2,000 acre site, had been out of action for four years due to a challenging series of faults. That was until August when a team of experts set out to meet the challenge.
The turning point came when the experts discovered the reasons for the lack of vacuum in the turbine''s condenser.
