IMS, a Mars, Pa.-based manufacturer of X-ray, isotope, and optical measuring systems for hot and cold mills and service centers, has received an order from Tenaris to supply tube measuring gauges for the company’s new tube mill in Bay City, Texas. The seamless pipe mill will have the capacity to produce 600,000 tons. The gauges will enter into service by 2016.
The transaction includes a pair of tube measuring systems and accessories. The first gauge (13-channel wall thickness and eccentricity measurement and 24-laser high-precision diameter and profile measurement) will be installed at the exit of the extractor mill. The second gauge (four-channel wall thickness measurement and 24-laser high-precision diameter and profile measurement) will be located at the exit of the stretch reducing mill.
This configuration, typical for a three-stage tube forming process (piercing, elongation, and finishing), allows for monitoring and control of all parameters of the hot shell and pipe.
