The company has supplied 310kt of hot rolled coil to the Trans Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP), which is more than one third of what is required.
The US$7 billion TANAP, which will be completed by 2018, is a 2,000km pipeline running from the Shah-Deniz oil fields in Azerbaijan across Turkey to the European border. On completion it will be capable of transporting over 16 billion cubic metres of natural gas per year.
Dietmar Ringel, CEO of ArcelorMittal Bremen, said the project was both exciting and challenging for the company. Deliveries of steel will start this year and will continue over the next two years. Ringel said that ArcelorMittal has a proven track record in the field of natural gas pipelines. He added that ArcelorMittal''s decision to produce the required hot rolled coil at its production site in Bremen, Germany, underlined the company''s commitment to the Bremen facility.
The steel being supplied to the TANAP project is the company''s high grade X70 steel, which is a high thickness steel designed specifically for pipelines operating at high operating pressures and atmospheric conditions.
