According to statistics from the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF), Japan’s domestic sales of ordinary carbon steel continued to drop in April, totaling around 2.6 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 27.8% and a month-on-month reduction of 16.7%, hitting a 51-year low.
Among them, the volume of steel orders from the manufacturing declined the most, dropping by 36.5% year on year and 23.8% month on month.
Japan’s domestic market has been worsened by the COVID-19 epidemic since early April, while the domestic sales have been decreasing before the pandemic due to the China-US trade friction, increased consumption tax, and natural disasters.
