EU asks India to drop mandatory quality testing for steel imports-The 20th China(Guangzhou) Int’l Forging Industry Exhibition

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has decided to extend mandatory quality certification system on various steel product imports including stainless steel plates, sheets and stripes. However, the EU raised the objections.
This requirement for re-testing by BIS authorized laboratory of the covered steel products which have been tested against the international standards. Actually, it created a non-tariff barrier to trade.
The Indian Steel Ministry brought 16 more steel products under its quality control system this June.
